Using childbirth to reduce weight Hello everyone, this is doctor U, Taiwoo Yoo. today’s topic is ‘Using childbirth to reduce weight’ last time, I’ve talked about how to reduce weight during pregnancy I think today’s topic is easier to understand than the last topic. pregnancy is not an easy thing to do and childbirth is also burdensome. there are two burdens after childbirth. one is parenting. it is not easy to bring up a child. second, most women these days worry about reducing pregnancy weight gain after the childbirth. by the way, it is natural to reduce weight after the childbirth. but many mothers fail to reduce weight. and surprisingly they gain more weight. they experience pregnancy weight gain but they maintain gained weight after the childbirth. why is it like that? there are two main reasons. first, a wrong belief. people tend to apply the past belief to the present. in the past, people used to believe that mothers should eat well for prenatal care. it was true in the past when Korea was a poor country. for that reason, seaweed soup with beef is widely eaten by many mothers after the childbirth. mother’s health and nutrition were important. the second wrong belief is that it is hard to reduce pregnancy weight gain. it is not true but people still believe this. that’s why mothers cannot reduce weight. there is one more belief that mother should eat well for the successful breastfeeding. it is hard to reduce weight based on this belief. actually, there are hidden other reasons for it. it is tiredness. I’ve told you about this several times through the seminar. obesity as well as other all kinds of disease, aging, death are caused by tiredness and stress. tiredness makes you eat more and that’s why it causes obesity. why people feel tired after the childbirth? of course, it is hard to take care of the baby. basically, you have to feed it, change its clothes, change its diaper the biggest hardship is when the baby cries at night. mothers cannot sleep at all. lack of sleep is the greatest pain in the childbirth. baby cries all the time. although mothers try to sleep, they only sleep lightly because of the baby. now, we know why mothers fail to reduce weight and it’s time to practice ‘using childbirth to reduce weight’. you will naturally reduce 5-6kg right after the childbirth. it is because the baby leaves your body. it is normally 3-4kg. also, amniotic fluid breaks and the placenta is eliminated during the childbirth. totally, 5-6kg is reduced from the body. unless you eat more food, you will be able to reduce extra 1-2kg within 2 weeks. body stores water to supply enough nutrients to the baby during the pregnancy. it is because blood is the means of supplying nutrients to the baby and it consists of water. that’s why the body stores water in the body. when the baby leaves the body, water goes out because it is not needed. it is a natural process. that’s why you can reduce 1-2kg within 2 weeks after the childbirth. in summary, 5-6kg of weight reduction is natural. next, breastfeeding is effective to reduce more than 2kg per month. it means you can reduce 6kg after three months of breastfeeding. it is possible to reduce even 10kg after 6 months of breastfeeding. it is a secret weapon. however, if you eat more for breastfeeding, you will gain weight. the baby receives nutrition through placenta or breastfeeding. but the nutrition is not from what you ate, but from the food already stored in your body. what you eat will be accumulated in your body, though some of them can be directly delivered to the baby. most of the breast milk is produced by the food which is already stored in your body. if you eat more than what baby needs, you will gain weight. many mothers believe that what they eat is directly delivered to the baby. it’s not. if you have enough food stored in your body, what you eat goes directly to you, not to the baby. here is a tip. if you are obese, share what you have in your body with the baby. breastfeeding depends on how the baby successfully sucks the breast. at first, the baby is too weak to suck the breast. many mothers worry that their baby suffers from malnutrition. so they eat more to produce more breast milk or use powdered formula. then, it makes things worse. baby never becomes malnourished. baby has a strong drive to suck because their survival depends on it. give some time to the baby. your body is programmed to give milk to the baby when it sucks your breast, although you don’t eat food. you use the food stored in the body to produce breast milk. if you keep eating, food will be accumulated to your body. use breastfeeding for weight reduction. here is the last important one left. when the mother is tired and exhausted, there is no way. she has to eat food. as I said, lack of sleep at night is the fundamental reason. you can solve this out by giving sleep training to the baby. how to make the baby sleep at night? the final goal is to make the baby sleep and awake when mom sleeps and wakes up. if it is early, it takes 1-2 weeks. it takes 1 month to the maximum. it is no problem to give the baby sleep training. usually, babies sleep all the time and they cry, eat, poop, wiggle when they are awake. increase the interval when feeding at night. start from 2 hours of interval. for example, if you feed the baby at 10pm, the next feeding time would be 12am, 2am. increase the interval up to 15-30 minutes. then, if you start feeding 10pm, the next feeding time would be 12:30am, 3am, 5:30am. increase it gradually. many parents do not wait when the baby is crying. they think the baby will be damaged when they leave it alone. but baby don’t get hurt because its brain is not developed yet. it is from instinct. as I said, what baby can do is only sleeping, crying, pooping, wiggling. rather, the mother feels sad to see the baby crying. then, the baby will learn the same feeling later on. this is a vicious cycle. the hurtful feeling is taught by the mother. so, when mom is strong, the baby won’t feel sad. baby’s crying is just a natural thing to happen. accept it. it takes 2 weeks – 1 month to make the baby follow mom’s sleep/awake time pattern. then, the mother will be able to sleep well. after solving out this problem, the rest of things go rapidly. so, it takes 1 month to go back to the body shape before pregnancy. keep practicing it for a month after the childbirth. if you do breastfeeding for 6 months, you will be able to make optimal weight. what do you think?     올해 4월에 첫 아이를 출산했습니다 거짓말 안하고 정말 아이를 낳은 지 일주일만에 10kg이상 감량 했습니다 박사님은 미역국을 먹으면 안된다고 하셨지만 전 미역국을 끼니마다 챙겨 먹었습니다 아무래도 해조류다보니 변비에 도움이되더라구요 그리고 무조건 부종을 빼는 데에 좋다는 건 모조리 챙겨먹었습니다 처음 1개월 정도는 모유수유를 했고요 이 모유수유를 하는 것이 정말 열량을 많이 소모 하여 체중을 더 줄게 하더라고요 진짜 안빠지는 살은 없는 거 같습니다 지금은 어린 아이를 돌봐야해서 체력을 보존해야 하기때문에 다이어트는 멈춘 상태이지만 100일정도 지나면 다시 시작할 계획입니다
