    Childbirth Truths C section Isn’t A Birth

Hi It’s the 25th of March 2018 in New Zealand and I’m wearing my gardening clothes so there you go. I want to talk today about the idea that Caesareans aren’t a ‘real’ birth. When I gave birth in 1970 the Caesarean rate was 4.5%. Those of us who had Caesareans we were incredibly grateful this was available. The circumstances of our birth that led to a Cesarean was so extreme our Cesarean was really life-saving. We were the 1st generation of Women who wanted to try to have a Vaginal Birth after a Cesarean or a Trial of Labor. I’m the Director of Common Knowledge Trust and the person…

Deaths From Pregnancy and Childbirth: Vulnerable and mistreated

ANA LANGER: We documented that everywhere, but it could happen to any woman, but it mostly happens to women who are vulnerable because of race, ethnicity, age, socioeconomic status. Women are very poorly treated. In fact, they are subjected to completely unacceptable behaviors. Sometimes, they are slapped. They are spoken to in a very rude way. They are retained in facilities, sometimes because they cannot pay. Well, obviously, their informed consent is not asked for. So there are so many ways women are poorly treated, and that’s the experience of care. So we’ve been talking mostly about clinical care, which is obviously essential. But the way women experience their childbirth…

Big Cut to Childbirth Surgery Rate

Giving birth is hard enough.. and now it seems like a once-common surgical procedure tied to childbirth.. is happening a whole lot less. I’m Rachelle Grossman with your latest health news. The rates of episiotomies – in which the birth canal is surgically widened to ease the childbirth process – are declining. Researchers say over the past decade, the rate of episiotomies has been cut almost in half. These findings are in line with recommendations which says that the procedure should not be routine. The reason? Episiotomies can bring a risk of complication like bleeding, infection and pain.

    A Woman’s World (Trailer)

She was just her own little person, she had her own opinion, she was… um… pretty self-assured, she just called it as she saw it. I wasn’t gonna let a man determine if I was gonna have a baby or not. I mean, it’s- I’m still kind of… uh… moved by what she did. She’s pretty damned amazing. Um… And I told my husband “We’re gonna parent the shit out of this baby because he’s ours and because I love him!” In, like, 34 minutes I’ve sprained my arms. I have all my love around me: My husband, my child, my family, and it just elicits that kind of response.…

So to save you from surprise, I thought I’d give all you pregnant mamas out there just a wee heads up If you’re being induced, the pessary is inserted by hand Some midwives think the phrase “Just relax” is a completely acceptable phrase to use when they…

Every Conversation About Childbirth Boils Down To How We See ‘Birth’

Okay. This is the Time I’m doing a lot of writing about childbirth and trying to de-confuse the language that’s been going on almost since I gave birth in 1970. I’ve learned (heaps) over the years of working with the Birthing Better families, who develop Birthing Better skills and being the Director of a Charitable Trust called Common Knowledge that houses these skills. In general when we talk about childbirth, we are talking about it from 3 directions. The #1 is a Truth that is Global… There’s no way to know what your birth is going to be like.’ Each of us who is a pregnant woman and each birthing woman…
