The Birth Place at Albany Med

(Inspirational Music) At The Birth Place at Albany Med, we can tailor any experience, for any woman’s needs. When women are greeted in Labor and Delivery by an expert Labor and Delivery nurse, they are introduced to the team that’s going to care for them during labor. You can come in and have a low-risk delivery, or you can come in and, if you require our high-risk services, we’re here for you 24/7. We are the Regional Perinatal Center, which serves all of the counties that we serve, all the way up to the Canadian border. We have a Level 4 NICU, a 60 bed, single room NICU, it’s beautiful. We have many rooms that can accommodate twins so that babies don’t have to be separated. We also have the children’s hospital, with access to all of the pediatric subspecialties. In OB, we have our Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist and our OB Anesthesia team. I love that at Albany Med we’ve got all of the specialists, and subspecialists that we would need, to take care of moms and babies. You could have, a completely normal delivery without any anesthesia and all of the birthing equipment that somebody might want. We’re also very used to having patients transported here who have a long list of complicated medical conditions. At Albany Med, we have Obstetric Anesthesia on staff 24 hours a day and that is unique, I think, to this hospital in this area. A lot of smaller hospitals don’t have that and what that means, is we’re able to do types of deliveries other hospitals can’t do. We may be known as the high-risk birthing center, but we also have a great low-risk population that comes to the medical center to deliver. Our staff consists of all registered nurses, so you will have a registered nurse right at your bedside. In Labor and Delivery, in the PACU if you should have a cesarean section, and on postpartum, the staff is all registered nurses. We also have sleep sofas in every single postpartum room after you deliver so your significant other can stay with you 24/7, and your infant in a basinet can stay with you 24/7. We have newborn nursery that will show you care if your infant should need special care, and we also have classes where, grandparents and your children, siblings, can come in and take a tour, and learn all about childbirth and taking care of a new baby. Albany Medical Center, the Birth Place, is truly the best place you can deliver your infant because at any point in time, we are here to help you along your journey to have a safe and really happy delivery. To the expectant mothers that, you know, are coming to Albany Med, that were planning on delivering at Columbia Memorial, I think they should be at ease that they’re coming to a absolutely wonderful place. The Columbia Memorial had to transfer me up to Albany Medical Center. I was there for 11 days before I delivered my baby prematurely. Anastasia stayed in the NICU for 30 days. Everybody knows exactly what to do, your baby will be in the best hands and also you will be in the best hands, and loving hands that you could possibly imagine. There’s some loving and amazing nurses, and staff, and doctors. You have the Ronald McDonald’s room that is always there to take care of anything you need. Whether it be the kitchen, or the staff, the volunteers that are there. Everybody has their own story to tell you, and they just make you feel so comfortable. Today, Anastasia is nine months old, she is 22.2 pounds, she’s 28 inches long, she is a thriving, beautiful, happy baby girl that just loves life. If anything unexpected were to happen, I like knowing that we’ve got the ability to handle the unexpected. Here at the Birth Place at Albany Med, moms and babies are our top priority.
