Which HAND Does a Wedding Ring Go On | Wedding Ring Finger

(light, perky music) – This is Jill Maurer
with Your Jewelry Minute and today I’m answering the question, which finger does my wedding ring go on? The answer is, it depends. It depends mostly on where you live. In the United States,
we put the wedding ring on the left hand, the fourth
finger of the left hand. But there are a lot of countries
who put the wedding ring on the fourth finger of the right hand. This includes Denmark,
Portugal, Spain, Greece, Russia, a lot of countries have the wedding ring on the right
hand on the fourth finger. There are some places where you
put your ring on one finger, on one hand, for the engagement and then you switch it to the
other when you’re married. There are some countries
where the ring is worn on one hand by the bride
and on another by the groom, and there are some
countries where it’s worn on a different finger altogether. Furthermore, there are
countries who do not use the wedding ring to symbolize marriage at all, traditionally. Now some have started because
it’s a western tradition and some people have adopted it, but others do not, there could be things that will indicate whether you’re married like the color of the part in your hair, whether or not you have a beard, the type of shawl you’re wearing, there can be all different
kinds of ways to indicate whether you are married. This has been Your Jewelry Minute, if you have a jewelry
related question for me, just ask me in the comment section below. Until next time. (light, perky music)

Great to know. In Jamaica in my Mother's and grandmother's era they only wore weddings bands when they went to the hospital to have their babies. It was to show the nurses that they were married. In that culture the married women giving birth got the best rooms, and medical treatment etc. Crazy i know but it's the culture back then.
